Evaluation of Calcium Fluoroaluminosilicate Based Glass Ionomer Luting Cements Processed Both by Conventional and Microwave Assisted Methods

Abstract: Calcium fluoroaluminosilicate glasses (CAS) are used in the formulation of glass ionomer cements for dental applications. However, the cements obtained from CAS glasses were found to be radiolucent. In this study, the influence of substituting Zn, Sr and Mg for Ca of CAS glasses was investigated with respect to the structure and setting characteristics, mechanical properties, and radiopacity of cements designed for luting applications. Three glass compositions based on substitution of Zn, Sr and Mg for Ca at 1… Show more

“…Negative charges were neutralized by monovalent and bivalent cations such as Na + and Ca 2+ [32]. In GIC-CQD, infrared spectral bands are broad due to the amorphous nature of the glass particles and CQDs [33]. The addition of CQDs to GIC did not affect the peaks due to the CQDs amorphous carbon phase.…”

“…[49][50][51] Microwave-assisted polymerization is also effective for the synthesis of polyalkenoic Review Materials Advances acid. 52,53 Compared to conventional free radical polymerisation, living radical polymerization techniques help to achieve proper control over the molecular weight and the molecular weight distribution of the polymer. 54 Here polymer radicals do not terminate via an inherent termination reaction and polymerization continued anytime by the addition of monomers.…”
