Evaluation of brush wood with stone check dam on gully rehabilitation

Abstract: Gullies are common features throughout the Ethiopian Highlands. Induced environmental degradation comprises not only the loss of soil volume and of arable lands but also the triggering of landslides or off-site sedimentation problems. This experiment was initiated with the aim of evaluating the effect of brush (bamboo) wood with stone check dam on soil and water conservation (gully rehabilitation) at Benishangulgumuz region of Assosa zone (Assosa district of selga-19 for two consecutive research years (2013/14… Show more

“…When the reaction rate changes between 10 -4 and 10 -3 , r and de vary slightly [22]. It means the PSI result is not very sensitive to the reaction rate, a moderate result could be obtained [23]. When the reaction rate is bigger than 10 -3 , the shape of release history curves is similar to the real history, but the peak is bigger than the real history ( Fig.…”

“…The increase in water holding capacity values during the composting process occurs due to the uniform physical structure of organic materials [31]. As a result of this increase in water holding capacity, compost can easily absorb nutrients carried by water [32].…”

“…Multi-spectral remote sensing can not only discriminate the ground object according to the difference of the shape and structure of the image but also discriminate the ground object according to the difference of the spectral characteristics and expand the information amount of remote sensing. Multi-spectral photography for aerial photography and multi-spectral scanning for terrestrial satellites can obtain remote sensing data of different spectral segments [21][22][23][24]. The images or data of the spectral segments can be processed by photographic color synthesis or computer image processing, obtaining more abundant images than conventional methods.…”
