Evaluation of bone deformities of the femur, tibia, and patella in Toy Poodles with medial patellar luxation using computed tomography

Abstract: Toy Poodles with grade 4 MPL had significant femoral varus deformity, medial displacement of the tibial tuberosity, internal torsion of the proximal tibia, and hypoplasia of the patella.

“…The literature has produced discordant studies regarding the changes of the anteversion angle of the femoral neck which can influence patellar instability; therefore, additional studies should be carried out to determinate the effect of femoral neck anteversion on the QA [22–24]. …”

“…Although 3D models are a well‐established diagnostic tool for people, they are new to veterinary medicine. Recent efforts to develop consistent imaging techniques led to a 3D approach for veterinary orthopedic investigation . The 3D models allow volume measurement, evaluation of joint congruency, and rotation of deformed bones at a desired orientation, creating cross‐sectional views from any position .…”

“…The 3D models allow volume measurement, evaluation of joint congruency, and rotation of deformed bones at a desired orientation, creating cross‐sectional views from any position . Only a single recent study has evaluated bone deformities through CT scan‐reconstructed 3D images but provided femoral measurements calculated in CT frontal or lateral view, thus in biplanar projections . In contrast, we present femoral angles calculated through 3D geometrical model.…”
