Evaluation of Arrhythmia Scoring Systems and Exercise-Induced Cardioprotection

Abstract: Introduction Exercise is protective against ventricular arrhythmias induced by ischemia (I), the condition of inadequate blood flow, and reperfusion (R), the reestablishment of blood flow. This protection is observed clinically and scientifically by decreased incidence in ECG abnormalities. Numerous scoring systems exist for the quantification of ventricular arrhythmia severity. On the basis of preventricular contractions, ventricular tachycardia, and ventricular fibrillation frequency, these scoring systems a… Show more

“…Definitions of arrhythmias were based on the criteria of the Lambeth Conventions, including premature ventricular contractions (PVCs), ventricular tachycardia (VT), and ventricular fibrillation (VF)47. An arrhythmia score was calculated with scoring system as previously described: [(Log 10 PVCs) + 2 (Log 10 episodes of VT) + 2 (Log 10 episodes of VF) + (Log 10 total duration of VF)]4849.…”

“…The episodes and cumulative duration of the premature ventricular contraction, ventricular tachycardia and ventricular fibrillation were recorded. The arrhythmia scoring system suggested by Miller et al(18) was used to assess the severity of I/R-induced ventricular arrhythmia. As presented in…”
