Evaluation of aquifer potential, geoelectric and hydraulic parameters in Ezza North, southeastern Nigeria, using geoelectric sounding

Abstract: A geoelectric survey involving vertical electrical sounding (VES) employing Schlumberger electrode configuration was carried out with the aim of evaluating the aquifer potential, electric and hydraulic parameters in Ezza North. Schlumberger electrode configuration was used to acquire data for twelve VES stations. The interpreted and analyzed results reveal four to six geoelectric layers. The VES curves obtained were QQH, QHK, QHA, QQQ, HAK, KHK, HKH and QQ. From the result, the Dar Zarrouk parameters (longitud… Show more

“…The vertical electrical sounding (VES) and electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) methods have been used successfully 1 3 29 Page 2 of 11 by several researchers and authors in solving a wide range of hydrological and hydrogeophysical problems including mapping of saturated aquifer horizons from the adjoining formations, groundwater potential investigations, aquifer characterisation, assessment of infiltration rate of the vadose zone and groundwater contamination studies (Stempvoort et al 1992;Samsudin et al 2009;George et al 2015b, Obiora et al 2016Lashkaripour and Nakhaei 2005;Ibuot et al 2013;Aleke et al 2018;Putranto et al 2017Putranto et al , 2018.…”

“…Good correlations were observed between the borehole lithology log data and the inverted results over half space in many locations. Some minor distortions noticed in some layers were suspected to have possibly originated from the failure of the 1-D assumption of the shallow subsurface of the half space (Gurunadha Rao et al, 2011;Sabet, 1975;Obiora et al, 2015;George et al, 2016a). The result of the computer iterations gave the true layers of the subsurface penetrated by current, true resistivity of each layer, the thickness (h), depth (d) of each layer of overburden geomaterial Figs.…”
