Evaluation of Aqueductal Stenosis by 3D Sampling Perfection with Application-Optimized Contrasts Using Different Flip Angle Evolutions Sequence: Preliminary Results with 3T MR Imaging

Abstract: BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Diagnosis of AS and periaqueductal abnormalities by routine MR imaging sequences is challenging for neuroradiologists. The aim of our study was to evaluate the utility of the 3D-SPACE sequence with VFAM in patients with suspected AS.

“…11,12 With this technique, thinner section images and 3D data (by using < 1-mm 3 voxels) can be acquired with acceptable acquisition time (approximately 5 minutes), minimizing the partial volume effect between small entities and surrounding tissue. 3,12 Our previous studies demonstrated that T2W 3D-SPACE with variant flip-angle mode images may show the flow dynamics of CSF in the ventricular system. 3,5 Besides, it has been shown that 3D data with high resolution acquired with this technique may demonstrate clearly the morphology of the third ventricle.…”

“…Also the other advantage of 3D sequences with 3 Tesla MR unit is to decrease MR examination time significantly (1). In routine MR examination protocol, T1W and T2W sequences have to be performed in many plans to determine the anatomical structures in wrist.…”
