The aim of the study was to compare the in vitro antibacterial activity of leaf extracts obtained from various Ficus species against four bacterial strains of fish pathogens (Serratia liquefaciens, Yersinia ruckeri, Pseudomonas fluorescens, Shewanella putrefaciens). In vitro tests for antibacterial activity assessment revealed that various Ficus species have notable antibacterial efficacy. The six most effective Ficus plants against S. liquefaciens that caused a zone of inhibition of at least 15 mm were F. lingua, F. erecta, F. rubiginosa, F. tinctoria, F. sur, and F. aspera. The maximum antimicrobial activity against the Y. ruckeri strain was observed for ethanolic extracts of F. hederacea, F. formosana, and F. hispida. Our results also demonstrated that the Pseudomonas fluorescens strain exhibited high susceptibility to ethanolic extracts derived from 20 plants (the mean value of inhibition zone diameters (IZD) was more than 15 mm). F. erecta, F. sur, and F. virens extracts were more effective against P. fluorescens. The Shewanella putrefaciens strain revealed a high level of susceptibility to ethanolic extracts derived from the leaves of 32 species (the highest value of the IZDs was observed for F. erecta). The data presented in the current study indicated that ethanolic extracts derived from leaves of various Ficus species are a promising alternative to the use of antibiotics and chemotherapeutics in controlling infections caused by the Serratia liquefaciens, Yersinia ruckeri, Pseudomonas fluorescens, and Shewanella putrefaciens strains.

The plant Pinda concanensis belongs to family apiaceae. It was native to the Western Ghats of India, but it is now becoming rare as a result of widespread usage of the seeds for their therapeutic properties. It is an annual herb with tuberous roots, which are eaten raw by local folklore. Apiaceae is the well-known aromatic plant family having beneficial uses in home remedies, abundance of phytochemicals, used in pharmaceuticals and cosmetics. The plant Pinda concanensis showed presence of phenolic, flavonoid, alkaloid, terpenoid and saponin content in each plant parts with different solvents of extraction. The methanolic extract of Pinda concanensis of different parts showed highest phytocompounds which are significant P<0.005.The total phenolic content was highest in dry methanolic stem while total flavonoid content in fresh stem. But total alkaloid, total terpenoid and total saponin was more in methanolic extract of dry root. This is the first report on GCMS analysis of whole plant extract of Pinda concanensis, in which twenty-two different compounds are found. The major bioactive compounds are reported are Methoxsalen (11.95%), Ficusin (6.69%), Isopsoralen (1.98%), Phellopterin (1.74%), Cyclohexane,1,2,3,5tetraisopropyl (5%), Octanoic acid, hexyl ester (4.87%), Hexanoic acid, hexyl ester (2.33%). The chemo profiling of this plant, reveals that the plant parts are rich source of biologically active metabolites and can be considered to treat Psoriasis, Cancer and diabetic like measure diseases thus increasing residence time of drug with better patient compliance.

Ficus racemosa is a traditional medicinal plant found in Southeast Asia and Australia. It is commonly known as 'gular'or ‘Dumur’. Owing to the presence of β-sitosterol it decreases the blood glucose concentration. Many active constituents isolated from different parts of this plant exhibit useful pharmacological activity. The objective of this dissertation is to identify the biological activity of the roots of an indigenous medicinal plant, viz., Ficus racemosa (Family: Moraceae) and to evaluate the possible phytochemical and pharmacological profiles of the crude extracts. Some chemical and biological researches on this plant have been conducted out so far, focusing mainly on the plant's bark and root. That's why the objective of this framework is to assess the different possibilities of developing new therapeutic targets from this plant's fruit that could be crucial for the treatment of many diseases.
