Evaluation of Acetaminophen Effect on Oxidative Stressed Mice by Peroxide Hydrogen

Abstract: Acetaminophen (Paracetamol) is among the most commonly used analgesic and antipyretic drugs worldwide, it's often, but anomalously, classified as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) in textbooks of pharmacology [1,2]. This study aims to evaluate if paracetamol has an antioxidant effect, relative to its analgesic antipyretic and weak anti-inflammatory activities, or it possesses a cytotoxic potential. Oxidative stress was induced by intraperetoneal injection of peroxide hydrogen (H 2 O 2 ), and then… Show more

“…Enhancement of lipid peroxidation in liver was detected through an elevation of MDA as a result of treatment with high doses of PAR that linked with oxidation of unsaturated fatty acids in the cell membrane ( Zoubair et al, 2013 ). In this experiment, MDA, MYO, NO, and PC levels considerably increased in the PAR-treated rats, while they were decreased to their normal levels in the IL-35- or THYO-treated groups.…”

“…The decrease in SOD, CAT, GPx, and GST enzyme activities and a decrease in GSH reductase may indicate the toxic effects of ROS produced by APAP. The hydrogen peroxide and superoxide anions are produced during metabolic activation of APAP in the cytochrome P450 system and from mitochondria during APAP intoxication and the generation of ROS appeared as an early event which preceded intracellular GSH depletion and cell damage in APAP hepatotoxicity [7]. Treatment with aqueous extract of S. torvum significantly reverted these changes which may be due to its anti-lipid peroxidative and antioxidant effect.…”

“…Other hand, the acetaminophen is an analgesic based non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID), and is commonly known as paracetamol. It has effective, cheap and extensively accessible drug and also found to possess good anti-inflammatory properties [10].…”
