Evaluation of Accuracy of Dems Obtained From Uav-Point Clouds for Different Topographical Areas

Abstract: The main objective of the study was to examine accuracies of DEMs (Digital Elevation Models) with different topographical structures generated by using the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) point clouds. Two different terrains with flat and sloping topographical structures were selected for the study, and DEMs of these terrains were generated using eight interpolation techniques (Kriging, Natural Neighbor, Radial Basis Function Triangulation with Linear interpolation, Nearest Neighbor, Invers Distance to a Power, … Show more

“…UAVs can provide a lot of information related to the surface with the various sensors they have or can be integrated. When UAVs photogrammetric techniques are also compared with satellite and aerial survey, UAVs can provide very high resolution data quickly with high accuracy and low cost (Akar 2017;Eltner et al 2017;Psirofonia et al 2017;Thumser et al, 2017).…”

“…For the last decade, the number of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) that are being used in numerous applications has been extensively increased due to growing demand from both the military and civil sectors (Thite et al, 2012;Pieraccini et al, 2017;Ananenkov, et al, 2018). One of the use of UAVs is for remote sensing applications (Ulvi et al, 2016;Akar, 2017, Ulvi, 2018. In a parallel manner, the need to detect such vehicles becomes really crucial for the safety on people.…”

“…Influence of interpolation method on the DTM quality has been investigated in previous studies (Robinson & Metternicht 2006;Arun 2013;Akar 2017). The method can influence DTM with lower resolution commonly derived from satellite imagery (Robinson & Metternicht 2006;Arun 2013).…”

“…The method can influence DTM with lower resolution commonly derived from satellite imagery (Robinson & Metternicht 2006;Arun 2013). Differences between the high-resolution DTMs derived from UAV imagery interpolated using multiple methods has shown to be not significant (Akar 2017). Comparison of some studies also shows how much is the vertical accuracy of DTM influenced by its resolution (Robinson & Metternicht 2006;Arun 2013;Akar 2017).…”
