“…New devices have been developed which achieve a sufficient tensile fixation strength compared with non-absorbable tack and transfascial suture [139,140], but data on large series with long-term follow-up are not yet available. There is not enough evidence to make any recommendation in favor or against the use of the absorbable fixing devices.…”

“…Data from Refs. [39][40][41][42][43][44][45] and colleagues 28 evaluated a few patients undergoing primary repair (14), laparoscopic repair with mesh (10), and open repair with mesh (21), with recurrence rates of 43%, 30%, and 33%, respectively. These investigators also reported that previous sternal wound infection was a risk factor for recurrent hernias after repair, with 6 of 16 patients with recurrences also having a previous sternal wound infection.…”

“…Although some animal studies have compared different types of tack fixation, there is no strong clinical evidence that shows the superiority of either type of tack fixation, so this is left to the surgeon's discretion. 14,15 Closure After mesh placement, the omentum and bowel are examined again to rule out bleeding or occult bowel injury. Ports larger than 5 mm are closed using an open or laparoscopic technique.…”
