Researches in the field of ambient assisted living (AAL) have increased in the last ten years, and the paradigms of the smart home have widely spread. Smart homes must consider the health-related issues and the real needs deriving from the ageing of their dwellers. In the smart home, appliances are expected to provide support to the residents, especially when they are characterized by disabilities and/or impairments related to ageing. While most of the AAL solutions presented in literature rely on complex systems and architectures, residents affected by mild or moderate disabilities can take advantage of just a simpler reconfiguration of living environments, i.e., the replacement of certain appliances with others that are able to help them in coping with their limitations. This paper proposes a semantic-based decision support system (DSS), which relies on ontological models, to assist designers in domestic environments’ reconfiguration. The ontology leverages semantic representations of dwellers and domestic environments’ domains of knowledge to foster the adoption of appliances able to help the residents to live independently. The development process of the ontology is presented in detail together with the results deriving from reasoning processes. To ease the reconfiguration of domestic environments, a prototypical application taking advantage of the DSS is presented.

This study employs Google trends and data from the web of science to evaluate the popularity, growth, and impacts of visual analytics (VA) as a research field and data science technique. The paper undertakes quantitative analyses and visualization of the temporal trends, from VA's emergence in 2000 to the end of 2019. The trend analysis helps to forecast future growth in the research and practice of VA. The study highlights four outcomes. First, there is a robust direct relationship among the variables, including VA's growth on the Google trends, the scientific literature production (SLP), and usage of the published documents. Second, the SLP's growth pattern highlights VA's popularity as an emerging field with an overall annual increase of 17.4%. The high citation counts of the published scholarship indicate a significant impact and a continuous growth of the VA field. Third, VA contributes to diverse disciplines other than computer science and information systems, from business and economics to engineering, healthcare, biomedical and chemical sciences, and arts and humanities. VA helps researchers and practitioners in multidisciplinary fields analyze multidimensional data, enhance data visualization, knowledge discovery, generating insights, and make informed decisions. On the reverse, other disciplines contribute to propelling VA's popularity through research productivity, usage, and citation impacts. Finally, a trend analysis predicts sustained future growth of VA technology in research and practice to dissect and sensemaking of the increasingly massive and complex data structures, which is now the norm in many fields.

Literature discovered that the selection of the right tool affects the decision-making process at the planning phase of housing development project. Imprecise decision-making are capable of generating big threat to project completion. Therefore, the adoption of the right tool by decision makers are compulsory to prevent the occurrence of any difficulties on the final stage of the project. The objective of this research is to define the decision-making tool applied at the planning phase of housing development project in Malaysia. A total of 80 sets of structured questionnaires were distributed to the private housing developers in Malaysia and out of 67 were found usable after data screening. The descriptive statistical analysis and the correlated analysis are conducted in this study aided by Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) software. The results of this study show that most of the Malaysian private housing developers applied potential analysis, comparison analysis, economic analysis, feasibility study and 4P’s analysis as tools when making a decision at the planning phase of housing development project. Hence, this paper is supposed to lead the potential private housing developers along with the governments by providing a number of tools in making decisions at the planning phase of housing development project in Malaysia.
