“…The developed SiPM PET system achieves submillimeter spatial resolution in the center of the FOV (0.7 mm in-plane using iterative image reconstruction of a point source in air) desired for rodent brain imaging and high peak system sensitivity (.3%) desired for dynamic PET studies with short-lived radiotracers and short time frames (22). Our new PET system neither significantly degrades the MRI information nor is affected by MRI acquisition.…”

“…The PET insert yields superb performance for small-animal imaging (22). The radial/tangential/axial resolutions estimated from reconstructed point source images using ordered-subset expectation maximization were 0.75/0.68/1.05 mm at the center of the FOV and 1.46/0.71/ 1.22 mm at the 14-mm radial off-center.…”

“…SiPM is widely believed to be the future photodetector for PET scanners . Clinic whole body PET scanners and preclinical PET scanners were already built with SiPM based detectors . But so far only a few studies were done on dual‐ended readout PET detector development with SiPMs and all of those studies used crystal size of 1.5 mm or bigger .…”

[28][29][30] But so far only a few studies were done on dual-ended readout PET detector development with SiPMs and all of those studies used crystal size of 1.5 mm or bigger. 21,[31][32][33] The focus of this work is to develop high resolution, high efficient and high DOI resolution small animal PET detectors using dual-ended readout of pixelated LYSO arrays optically coupled with SiPM arrays.…”
