Evaluation of a Rapid Immunochromatographic Test for Detection of Brucella Abortus Antibodies in Egyptian Cattle Sera and Milk

Abstract: Rapid diagnostic tests are needed to facilitate diagnosis and control of brucellosis. Sero-epidemiology of brucellosis is currently done by employing the Rose Bengal test (RBT). Also the world organization for animal health (OIE) has approved an indirect ELISA for testing serum and milk. The Immuno-Chromatographic brucellosis test (ICT) is a rapid, card-based immunochromatographic test for detection of antibodies directed against B. abortus antigens. To the best of our knowledge, ICT has not been used for the … Show more

“…Hence, in the present investigation, LFA was evaluated with RBPT and iELISA considering cELISA as the gold standard. Our results are in agreement with the high sensitivity and specificity observed for the flow assay by earlier reports from Spain [ 27 ], Turkey [ 28 , 29 ] Kazakhstan [ 28 ], and Egypt [ 30 , 31 ]. The LFA has shown good PPV and NPV greater than RBPT and almost similar to that of iELISA.…”

“…In general, there was a moderate degree of agreement between all the three tests in both human and animal with kappa value of 0.57 in animals and 0.51 in humans 95% confidence interval and p<0.001 which was statistically significant. This was similar to the findings of Elshemey and Abd-Elrahman [16].…”

“…As well as this test has several practical advantages making it the method of choice when testing animals from nomadic and other migratory populations [14]. Relatively similar findings were recorded by Elshemey and Abd-Elrahman [15] who recorded 94.44 % sensitivity and 100 % specificity suggesting that, it is a simple and rapid method that provides accurate detection of antibodies to B. abortus in cattle. Therefore, it can be practically used in the epidemiological surveillances of brucellosis.…”
