Evaluation of a Paediatric Trauma Social Worker Service

Abstract: Injury is the leading cause of hospitalisation of children in Australia and can cause ongoing physical and psychological morbidity. Hospital staff provide excellent physical care to injured children, but there is a need for models of care that improve psychosocial care. “…Research has shown that inclusion of the family in the trauma room has not caused negative effects (O'Connell et al, 2021). Assignment of a Social Worker to be part of the team enhances family support (Curtis et al, 2020). We did not incorporate this into our simulation, but plan to do so in the next version.…”
