Evaluation of 230 Cases of Bartholin Gland Marsupialisation

Abstract

Objective: The aim of our study is to examine the cases that underwent marsupialisation for Bartholin gland abscess cases. Method: Medical records of 230 patients who underwent Bartholin gland abscess marsupialization in our hospital between January 2011 and March 2017 were retrospectively reviewed. Patients' demographic data, location and size of Bartholin abcess, complaints of admission and postoperative complications were recorded. The data of patients who did or did not have vaginal delivery The mean age of the patients was 31.78±7.24 years. Median numbers for gravida and parity were 1.75 and 1.45, respectively. While 62 patients were nulliparous, 160 patients had vaginal delivery and 8 patients had cesarean section. The most common complaint was pain with a rate of 60% and the second most common complaint was dyspareunia. Recurrence was more frequent in the vaginal delivery group. Conclusion: Bartholin abscess is more prevalent in young, sexually active individuals who have a history of surgical intervention in Bartholin gland region. Marsupialisation is an easier procedure than other procedures, the length of hospital stay and the duration of operation are shorter than other procedures.
