Evaluation and validation of a biochip multi-array technology for the screening of 14 sulphonamide and trimethoprim residues in honey according to the European guideline for the validation of screening methods for veterinary medicines

Abstract: International audienceHoney could be contaminated by antibiotic residues. There is still a great need for a cheap and single multi-residue method. The Evidence Investigator™ system is a biochip and semi-automated system. The microarray kit I (AM I) for the detection of sulphonamide and trimethoprim (TMP) residues in honey was evaluated, and then validated according to the European decision EC/2002/657 and to the European guideline for the validation of screening methods for veterinary medicines (2010). The met… Show more

“…The Evidence Investigator TM system is an adequate analytical method for screening analyses for detection of antibiotic residues in honey. It demonstrates an excellent specificity and ensures reliable results (O'Mahony et al, 2011;Popa et al, 2012;Gaudin et al, 2013Gaudin et al, , 2014Gaudin et al, , 2015.…”

“…An analysis of many bibliographic studies shows that there are antibiotic specialties for bee species in several countries of the world including the United States, Australia and Canada (Baggio et al, 2009;Barbançon et al, 2013;Codex Alimentarius Commission, 2018;Community Reference Laboratories, 2007;Food and Drug Administration, 2003;Gaudin et al, 2013Gaudin et al, , 2015Wang, 2004;Wang et al, 2014;FAO/WHO, 2018;Zhou et al, 2009). Among the EU Member States, only Slovakia has an antibiotic with a marketing authorization for the fight against European foulbrood (Oxyoharm® containing Ox-TC) (Vidal-Naquet, 2015).…”

“…There are no established maximum residue limits (MRLs) for antibiotics used for treating bee diseases, and each country or continent sets its own thresholds (4). Microbiological effects, carcinogenicity, reproductive effects, and teratogenicity are the long-term consequences of exposure to antibiotic residues.…”

“… 1 TAP is used for animal breeding and agricultural planting, for the purpose of inhibiting bacteria or other microorganisms, and TAP can enter the environment through feces and soil. 2 Because TAP inhibits the production of platelets and adversely affects the blood system, 3 it poses a huge threat to the environment and human health. 4 As we all know, milk and related products are derived from dairy cows and dairy cows need to obtain food from the environment.…”
