Abstract. The rapid growth of transportation in developing countries brings advantages and disadvantages. One of the disadvantages gives negative impacts, such as traffic jam, which directly decreases a highway performance as well as increases air and noise pollution. A suitable policy has not been formulated to overcome the traffic jam in most highways in big cities. However, traffic demand management regard to noise pollution is required in most cities of developing countries, particularly Surabaya City, as a case study area. This study aims to understand the influence of saturated flow of highway on noise pollution for several types of road corridors. The results reveal that saturated flow of highway has a significant effect on noise pollution. By examining the alternatives of space-transport development strategies, the intention is to reduce noise pollution together with decreasing traffic jam due to decreasing the number of light vehicles. This research proposes the improvement of public transport (PT) by planning a Mass Rapid Transit ((MRT). In addition, a structure of compact zones is designed as urban spatial strategy alternatives. Its substantially reduction is achieved with the design of improvement of PT systems and compact zone. The best option for reducing noise pollution level, the implementation of an integrated space-transport development strategy, is then recommended.

In Europe, the acceptance of the railways as a driving force for the development economic and ecological it is subject at the rail noise reduction, aspect important for people's health and the environment. The acceptance of the noise for the citizens, living in the vicinity of railway lines, is of vital importance in view of the increasing number of trains and consequently of the noise they produce. Therefore, measures to reduce the noise levels are essential to prevent health risks in the citizens exposed. Health effects due to prolonged exposure to environmental noise, rarely can cause directly damage to hearing (hearing loss). Many damages psychosomatic, can affect the apparatus: digestive, respiratory, visual, reproductive, skin and circulatory systems and blood. Precisely for these reasons, in recent decades the actions of assessment and reduction of noise, coming from the civil engineering infrastructure, have become of paramount importance and cannot longer be neglected. The aim of this study is the evaluation of noise emission coming from a railway yard inserted in an urban context, and the acoustic environment in the surrounding area and the possible presence of sources concomitants in the railway area. The work presented here is part of a larger project aimed at developing a 3-D numerical model of the survey area, to be used for the noise-mapping of the area in the existing situation, both for the simulation of future order, resulting after the inclusion of noise abatement systems aimed at reducing noise pollution.

 Abstract-Traffic noise is considered a predominant source of pollution in urban areas. Yet, limited amount of work has been done on the issue in Jordan. This study was carried out with the aim of providing a better understanding of traffic noise in Jordan and its impacts. Noise levels were measured at 18 selected sites in Amman, the capital of Jordan and the validated British CRTN method was used to predict future noise levels at the same sites. The results of analyses of the noise data reveal that the measured traffic noise levels still high and exceed the maximum allowable limit at all survey sites while the CRTN model still valid under Amman's traffic and road conditions. An attempt was made to monetize the economical noise impact using several costing scenarios including hedonic pricing technique beside other methods applied and proved to be acceptable in developed countries. A minimum -maximum annual noise cost of a range between $ 81 and $ 240 million was produced by the various scenarios.
