Evaluating the toxic potential of agrochemicals on the hypothalamic‐pituitary‐thyroid axis in tilapia(Oreochromis mossambicus)

Abstract: Agrochemicals are a major cause of concern for the aquatic environment because of their toxicity, persistence, and tendency to accumulate in the organisms. The impact of these chemicals on aquatic organisms is due to their movement from various diffuse or point sources, which poses a great threat to aquatic fauna especially fishes, which constitute one of the major sources of protein‐rich food for mankind. The present study is a first of its kind, where the toxic potential of two sublethal concentration (LC1/1… Show more

“…As the maximum change observed was in MD and HD, we also predicted that the variations occurring in the gene expression pattern of these proteins would also be significant at both doses. This is because of our previously published data (Pandya et al, 2020), where we have shown a strong link between agrochemicals and endocrine markers, that is, hormones and their receptors are possible targets for agrochemicals, resulting in their multitarget competence. Nevertheless, the molecular structure analysis of PE through in silico applications and Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) studies will add to the present knowledge.…”

“…Quantitative real‐time PCR was executed using SYBR Green master‐mix (ThermoFisher: A25742) for 40 cycles, following the protocol by Pandya et al, 2020. The “Ct value” was employed to calculate the relative expression of the gene of interest using Microsoft Excel, and graphical representations were generated using GraphPad Prism software.…”
