Evaluating the Performance of a Production Line by the Overall Equipment Effectiveness: An Approach Based on Best Maintenance Practices

Abstract: The work presented in this paper constitutes a contribution to improve and evaluate the performance of a production line, by using the Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) indicator. In this paper, we propose and implement an OEE improvement approach based on Best Maintenance Practices (BMPs) and apply them to a case study of an automotive wiring mechanical machine. To do this, we conducted an internal benchmarking study to select BMPs and we applied them to improve the availability of the machine and the tot… Show more

“…Usually, OEE is calculated manually by multiplying factors such as availability, performance, and quality. Benchmarking study is applied to select the best manufacturing practices to improve the performance of the production line and the total return of OEE [6]. The manufacturing companies analyses vital performance indicators by using appropriate software tools such as TAPS and AHP with the help of managers in making strategic decisions [7].In some studies, Excel is also used to evaluate OEE [8].…”

“…In this regard, continuous OEE monitoring is carried out in order to assess equipment efficiency and propose appropriate measures for its management. Benchmarking analysis is commonly used to determine the best management techniques for increasing manufacturing plant efficiency and the effective rate of OEE (Fattah et al 2017). In particular, the OEE is quantified by combining three distinct variables into a single one.…”
