Evaluating the Impact of Building Information Modeling (BIM) on Mass House Building Projects

Abstract: This paper aims to identify and investigate the factors affecting the goals of mass-housing building projects due to the use of building information modeling (BIM). A descriptive-survey method was used to collect necessary data. Fifty respondents from the target sectors and experts in the field of modeling building information participated in self-selection survey. The tools of collecting data included three questionnaires regarding three phases of construction work: pre-construction, during construction and p… Show more

“…The importance of data modeling was emphasized by the participant professionals as a critical parameter affecting the planning process of tall timber apartment projects, as it is in many other projects such as mass house building projects [46], large scale complex building projects [47] and off-site construction [48].…”

“…This phenomenon is also observed in the construction sector, which has been developing dynamically over the past few years. The prefabrication industry, in which standardisation allows for greater production automation, is a leader in innovation in construction [26,59,60]. BIM is a method of design that integrates all project participants based on its cohesive, comprehensive spatial model, recorded in digital form [58].…”

“…In this study, the initial questionnaire was designed in order to identify the barriers and risks for PPPs undertaking UICPs in Middle Eastern developing countries. Similar to other studies in the same field [52,53], some barriers and risks obtained through the Delphi rounds were eliminated from the initial questionnaire and some items were also added to the questionnaire. For example, in the category of financial barriers and risks, three factors were added to the list, including the financial dependence of a project to other projects during the commissioning period, a lack of certainty regarding the financial costs in the maintenance and commissioning period due to inflation, and a lack of use of novel financing tools and methods.…”
