Evaluating the Benefits of Model-Driven Development

Abstract: Researchers have been evaluating the benefits of Model-Driven Development (MDD) for more than a decade now. Although some works suggest that MDD decreases development time, other works limit MDD benefits to academic exercises and to developers without experience. To clarify the benefits of MDD, we present the results of our experiment, which compares MDD and Code-centric Development (CcD) in terms of correctness, efficiency, and satisfaction. Our experiment achieves fidelity to real-world settings because the … Show more

“…A comparison study between MDSE and CcD has been done for over a decade. From the review paper by Domingo et al, many researchers have been evaluating the benefit of the MDSE [17]. Some works said that MDSE decreases development time (up to 89%) relative to Codecentric Development (CcD).…”

“…Developing innovative financial technology solutions requires a thorough understanding of user needs, regulatory frameworks, and market trends. However, the complexity arises from various factors, including evolving customer expectations, changing regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies [20][21][22][23].…”

“…Empirical evidence on model-driven development benefits. A recent paper by Domingo et al [11] surveys work on empirically measuring the benefits of model-driven development against codecentric approaches and propose a new experiment where a domainspecific language for video game development is compared to a code-centric approach. This work shows that in a model-driven approach, aside from advantages in efficiency previously reported in the literature, there are also advantages in terms of correctness with respect to a specification.…”
