Abstract: A rapid production and market appraisal was undertaken to target important markets, commodities, producers and traders of vegetables (exotic and indigenous) in three regions of Cameroon. For each vegetable, post harvest losses were estimated and gross marketing margins were calculated and then used to estimate daily earnings. The main actors were women of between 17 and 50 years old with an average daily earning of less than 1 000 FCFA (US$1 = 495 FCFA). The typical market woman sold 2.5 different products wit… Show more

“…This is in line with the observations of previous works [11]. The safety measures taken by these farmers are not enough for the majority since there is no training and assistance to conveniently take precautions for their personal health as observed in 2009 [27] and 2007 [28]. This is why they are affected by many diseases mentioned in this work; even their comportment during or after spraying is hypothetical because they eat or smoke during spraying.…”

“…However, [5] report that although there seems to be an increase in vegetable production over the years, the demand for vegetable is high and is causing scarcity in the market. [6] attribute this scarcity to post harvest losses due to the perishable nature of vegetables, while [7] blame it on poor access to improved seeds which has compromised productivity [8]. on their part, attribute the non-availability of vegetables all year-round to inefficient management of resources/inputs available to the farmers.…”
