Abstract-The goal of Speaking Course in highereducation is to develop student's ability to speak effectively. The aim of this research are: 1) to investigate the differences on students' speaking ability taught by Cooperative, Synectics, and CTL learning models, 2) to find the differences of speaking ability among the students with high motivation and low one, 3) to know the interactions between learning model and motivation toward speaking ability. This quasi experimental research used factorial design 3x2.The data were collected through questionnaire for measuring students' motivation for speaking, empirical test for knowing the validity and reliability of instruments as well as speaking test to measure speaking achievement. The research results showed that there were interactions between learning models and motivation for speaking toward speaking ability. The speaking score of students with high motivation and taught by cooperative learning model was better than them with synectics and CTL.

Integrated Teaching Model for Undergraduate English Majors’ English Public Speaking Course in China

Recently more and more universities in China design public speaking course in English for the undergraduate English majors. This course can facilitate the students' oral presentation skills as well as critical thinking improvement. In practice, the outcome of public speaking course is not satisfactory for most students feel anxious to speak in a foreign language and the traditional teacher centered teaching model is not sufficient for the enhancement of students' achievement in such oral skill focused course. In this paper, the author investigated a new and creative teaching model to activate students' motivation and forester their performance in English public speaking course for English majors. This model combines neuro-linguistic programming and cooperative approach to create an integrated model. NLP can help recreate a positive and friendly atmosphere for students' success in English public speaking course and cooperative approach is the learning model which emphasis that a group of students to learn together to optimize the learning environment and reach the learning goals. The newly designed integrated model can be an effective model for a valuable and productive English public speaking course.

Interactive three‐dimensional virtual environment to reduce the public speaking anxiety levels of novice software engineers

Software engineering is a set of activities that relies no only on technical tasks but also requires abilities focused on social duties such as daily meetings and product introduction presentations. However, engineers may experience elevated levels of anxiety when required to present their work in an unfamiliar environment. More specifically, they may suffer from public speaking anxiety even though they are supposed to be effective in those social tasks as well as in their engineering activities. Fortunately, previous studies suggest that virtual exposure therapy is an effective strategy to reduce public speaking anxiety. In this study, an interactive 3D virtual environment similar to real classrooms and auditoriums was developed to examine if this might decrease the anxiety levels of novice software engineers. To compare traditional and virtual exposure therapy, the sample set (N = 14) was divided equally into 2 groups including one experimental group and one control group. For 4 weeks, the virtual exposure therapy was conducted in the experimental group whereas psychoeducation was used in the control group. The findings from our study illustrate that virtual exposure therapy may be represent an alternative solution to the traditional therapeutic intervention for software engineers seeking to overcome public presentation anxiety.
