“…There is merit for the various approaches and in this article we showcase the challenges and present a knowledge discovery and analysis framework that is suitable for a variety of outcomes. We also demonstrate the merits of using a standardized nursing EHR system that is well tested and designed for generating reliable and valid standardized nursing care planning data and supported by substantial research evidence (Almasalha et al, 2013; Anderson, Keenan, & Jones, 2009; Boyd, Funk, Schwartz, Kaplan, & Keenan, 2009; Febretti et al, July 2013; Johnson et al, 2014 in review; Keenan, Stocker, Barkauskas, Treder, & Heath, 2002; Keenan, Yakel, Lopez, Tschannen, & Ford, 2013; Keenan et al, 2005; Keenan, 2014; Keenan et al, 2002; Keenan, Tschannen, & Wesley, 2008; Keenan & Wilkie, 2014; Keenan et al, 2012; Lodhi et al, 2016 in review; Lodhi et al, 2014; Lodhi et al, 2015; Schneider, Barkauskas, & Keenan, 2008; Sousa et al, 2015; Stifter et al, 2014; Stifter et al, 2015; Tastan et al, 2014; Tschannen et al, 2011; Yao et al, 2015). In this work we have also illuminated important issues inherent with analysis of nursing healthcare data.…”

“…Seven studies using NOC used the NOC rating to measure changes in the condition of patients from admission to discharge (Azzolin et al, 2013;da Silva et al, 2015;Park, 2013;Scherb, Stevens, & Busman, 2007;Scherb et al, 2011;Schneider, Barkauskas, & Keenan, 2008;Tseng & Moorhead, 2014). “…Azzolin et al (2013) noted that eight interventions from NIC showed significant improvement according to the outcome score for patients with heart failure in the indicators functional status, self-care, and symptom control. Schneider et al (2008) also compared the NOC rating scale with the Outcome and Assessment Information Set (OASIS), a generic tool for collecting data on outcome-based quality development, prospective pay, and public reporting of quality data for home health care. The result showed the possibility to find which interventions were suitable for dif- Usefulness of Standardized Nursing Terminologies E. Törnvall and I. “…OASIS developers reported two independent tests of inter-rater reliability. For the first, reported kappa values for all but four items were .41 (Shaughnessy et al, 2002). Subsequently, Hittle et al (2003) reported kappa values in the range of .41-.91 for most items and .60 or higher for functional status items.…”
