Evaluating Ecological Footprints through Inbound Tourism, Population Density, and Global Trade

Abstract: Environmental damages are largely visible by the man-made actions in general, including an enormous increase in international tourism, huge pressure on arable land by increasing population density, and global international trade. These stated factors are mainly responsible for 'ecological footprints' across the globe. The present study considered these factors in order to evaluate 'ecological footprints' in a panel of 130 countries for a period of 1995-2018. The dynamic differenced GMM estimator is used for em… Show more

“…The instrumental variables used here are the lagging second and third period values of lnhc and lnhc 2 . The result of column (3) shows that after considering the endogenous issue, lnef still rises first and then falls with the increase of lnhc at the 1% significance level. Finally, in view of the fact that some studies believe that there is a linear relationship between ecological footprint and human capital, 27,30 we observe whether the linear relationship exists by removing lnhc 2 .…”

“…Various econometric techniques have been used in investigating the relationship between crimes and other economic and non-economic factors, including Arif et al (2017), Rahman and Prasetyo (2018), Hamid and Bitran (2021), Anser et al (2020), Schargrodsky and Freira (2021), Rosenfeld et al (2019), Eva (2021), and Peng et al (2021), among others. According to Hassan et al (2016), inflation is one of the determinants of crime and occurs when price levels increase continuously.…”

“…As expected, the wages have a negative and significant effect on the crime rate in Indonesia. Another study conducted by Anser et al (2020) has examined the effect of poverty, income inequality, and social expenditure on the crime rate using a panel data approach. The panel data consists of 16 countries between 1990 and 2014.…”
