Evaluating Chemical EOR Potential of St Joseph Field, Offshore Malaysia

Abstract: This paper presents a systematic evaluation of enhanced oil recovery (EOR) potentials for St Joseph Field located in the offshore Malaysia. The field has been in production for 30 years, currently under gas injection and started injecting water in March 2011. Chemical EOR (cEOR) was identified as the most effective EOR process for maximizing ultimate recovery for St Joseph and the two nearby fields. This paper presents the key results of the St Joseph chemical EOR feasibility evaluation. It also discusses an i… Show more

“…Under equilibrium conditions, the diameter of the elongated drop can be measured by automatic pixel analysis of the corresponding camera image and can be used to calculate interfacial tension according to equation (1), with c being the interfacial tension, d the drop diameter, ω the angular frequency of rotation, and Δp the density difference between light phase and heavy phase:…”

“…Surfactant flooding is an enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technique that has a decent potential application in Malaysia's oilfield. Du et al, [1] in their study has carried out evaluation on the most suitable enhanced oil recovery (EOR) technique to be applied in St. Joseph field, offshore Sabah, Malaysia.…”

“…The EOR studies on the Caracara Sur field in Llanos Basin, Columbia were conducted, but a field pilot or an application has not been seen reported. Several papers have been presented about the design and preparation of the offshore ASP pilots in two fields, St. Joseph in Malaysia and La Salina in Venezuela . The field application results have not been seen reported in the literature.…”

“…These forces are responsible for oil entrapment during water flooding [3]. Chemical flooding is considered as the most attractive EOR technique that mobilizes the remaining oil by reducing the capillary forces [4]. These forces conclude that interfacial tension (IFT) at the crude oil and brine interface plays a dominant role.…”
