Evaluating a Cobalt‐Tetraphenylporphyrin Complex, Functionalized with a Reduced Graphene Oxide Nanocomposite, for Improved Tooth Whitening

Abstract: First, the Co/TPP/RGO complex allows improved tooth bleaching and shorter treatment times. Second, because the Co/TPP/RGO complex bleached D&C Red 34 at a similar rate and to a similar degree as tea and other natural agents stain teeth, it is a convenient staining agent for studying many vital aspects of tooth bleaching. “…80 The use of catalysts is another way to decrease the whitening reaction time, such as the cobalt-tetraphenylporphyrin/reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite that significantly enhances the whitening efficiency of hydrogen peroxide. 81 New whitening dentifrices with baking soda and hydrogen peroxide improve the dental color while the enamel microhardness is not reduced. Besides, these kinds of dentifrices have potential activity against Streptococcus mutants.…”

“…To improve the bleaching process and decrease the time of the treatment, the light-activation of peroxide-based products is used, but novel ways are being found to ameliorate the efficiency of teeth-whitening. Several studies reported that the use of activating agents, such as nanoHAp or Fe(III) phthalocyanine, together with H 2 O 2 is useful for the purpose [ 152 ]. Based on these evidences, Su and coworkers proposed the application of a nanocomposite made of rGO and Cobalt Tetraphenylporphyrin (CoTPP) as a catalyst for tooth bleaching ( Figure 9 a) [ 120 ].…”

“…[1][2][3][4][5][6] Some recommended methods to minimize sensitivity include using lower concentrations of bleaching agents, 6 shortening the application time 7 and introducing catalysts or accelerators of the oxidation reaction, such as sodium, potassium, iron, and manganese compounds, as well as titanium and graphene-based nanoparticles. [8][9][10][11] The use of catalysts or accelerators could provide a more pronounced bleaching effect in a shorter time, thus, achieving more efficient bleaching results, while requiring a lower hydrogen peroxide concentration.…”
