The structural constitution and ionic or molecular nature of the glassy matrix in liquid aluminosilicates are governed mainly by the molar ratio O: (Si + Al), and during the welding process affect its thermodynamic, chemical and physical properties as well as in their interactions with the metal droplet and the weld pool. In aluminosilicate fusion, O 2-ion interactions with other substances from the unalloyed flux matrix and filler metals and base are of considerable importance during the formation of the weld metal by submerged arc welding process (SAW). In this study, assessing the relation between the classical basicity index and several optical basicity indices using criteria according to Zhang (BO zh ), Duffy and Ingram (BO D ) and the proposed in this work by the authors (BO P ) and also between the BO P and the molar ratio O: (Si + Al) in each matrix. This provides structural-chemical criteria for the matrices and their metallurgical activity. From a thermodynamic analysis one can determine the oxygen amount in the weld metal, which allow to estimate the possible physical and mechanical properties of itself. Key words. Optical basicity, Flux vitreous matrixes, weld metal oxygen IntroducciónLa constitución estructural y la naturaleza iónica o molecular de las escorias silicáticas en estado líquido están gobernadas fundamentalmente por la relación O:Si o O:(Si+Al), relación que durante el proceso de soldadura repercute en las propiedades termodinámicas, metalúrgicas, químicas y físicas de la misma y de sus interacciones con la gota metálica y el baño de soldadura [1].La presencia del ión nucleofílico O 2-libre (base dura) en la matriz y la escoria líquidas es un hecho estudiado y su cantidad depende de la basicidad [1]. Las interacciones del ión O 2-con otras sustancias de la matriz del fundente no aleado y con los elementos químicos del metal de aporte y base son de considerable importancia durante la constitución del metal del cordón y del comportamiento operativo de la escoria en el proceso SAW [2]. En el proceso SAW con fundentes aglomerados no-aleados es posible la interacción del metal líquido con el oxígeno gaseoso del aire ocluido entre los granos del fundente [3]; sin embargo, la fundamental fuente de oxígeno la constituye la interacción del fundente líquido (matriz fundida) con hierro líquido de la gota y del baño de soldadura durante los procesos REDOX, aunque, también, una importante parte del incremento del oxígeno en el cordón puede ser aportada por el H 2 O adsorbida o constitucional de algunos constituyentes del fundente o por el herrumbre formado sobre los metales de aporte o base, etc.
