Tibouchina belongs to the Melastomataceae family, the seventh family of flower plants more diverse worldwide, with 180 genera and 300–350 distributed throughout the rain forests of Mexico, the Caribbean, and South America (Ruilova & Marques, 2016; Fernández‐Sánchez et al ., 2020).
