Euromat 2011: powder synthesis and processing for controlled microstructure

Abstract

Euromat (the European Congress and Exhibition on Advanced Materials and Processes) is the prime event in Europe for academics and industrialists active in materials science and technology. It has been held every two years since 1989 under the auspices of the Federation of European Materials Societies (FEMS). Euromat is a full topic conference, open to contributions in a broad range of subjects dealing with the science and technology of materials. It therefore offers materials scientists the possibility to look not only at their preferred topics, but also at other materials, methodologies, processes and applications. And we all know how important cross-fertilisation is in scientific and technological research. The last Euromat, held in Montpellier, France on 12-15 September 2011, attracted some 2760 contributions. The technical programme was structured in topic areas and, within each topic, into symposia. The Processing topic included the themes: Solidification and solid state transformations; Joining; Coatings and surface engineering; New concepts in materials processing; and Powder routes: from synthesis to materials. The final theme was structured into two symposia: Powder synthesis and processing; and Powder processing to controlled microstructure and near net complex shape.
