EURISCO: The European search catalogue for plant genetic resources

Abstract: The European Search Catalogue for Plant Genetic Resources, EURISCO, provides information about 1.8 million crop plant accessions preserved by almost 400 institutes in Europe and beyond. EURISCO is being maintained on behalf of the European Cooperative Programme for Plant Genetic Resources. It is based on a network of National Inventories of 43 member countries and represents an important effort for the preservation of world's agrobiological diversity by providing information about the large genetic diversity k… Show more

“…The program carried out by ECPGR "for better use of gene banks and resistance breeding" is part of the "agricultural research programme". The actions have had some success and led to the creation of the EURISCO internet search platform which "serves as a central point of access within a network of national information systems that store and manage data on plant genetic resources" [21]. The awareness from ECPGR that diversity is renewed thanks to in situ and on-farm management, started only in the 2000s in Europe [22].…”

“…All passport data are compliant with the Multicrop Passport Descriptors standard -MCPD v.2.1 (Alercia et al, 2015). The passport part of the National inventory of Slovakia is replicated to the global system for plant genetic resources in Europe -EURISCO (Weise et al, 2017). At present, the Slovakian collection in EURISCO catalog represents 17.142 accessions from which 640 accessions are included in the AEGIS system (Engels et al, 2011).…”

“…There is no need to emphasize that such a volume of informally demanding activities could not be effectively managed without a sufficient information system. GRISS acts as a data source for global information systems, such as the Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) (Endersen, Knupffer, 2012) or the European Search Catalogue for Plant Genetic Resources (EURISCO) (Faberová, 2010;Weise et al, 2017).…”

“…Danas u svetu postoji oko 1.300 registrovanih institucija koje su osnovane sa ciljem sakupljanja i čuvanja biljnih genetičkih resursa. Centralna Evropska baza podataka, EURISCO, obezbeđuje informacije za oko 1,8 miliona uzoraka gajenih biljaka koji se čuvaju u oko 400 instituta u 43 zemlje učesnice (Weise et al, 2017).…”
