Abstract:Receptors belonging to the Cys-loop gene superfamily of neurotransmittergated ion channels (e.g. acetylcholine, serotonin, GABA, and glycine receptors) mediate fast synaptic transmission. These receptors are targeted by a number of clinically used drugs (e.g. antiepileptics, antipsychotics, anesthetics). Cys-loop receptors contain three domains: extracellular (ECD), transmembrane (TMD), intracellular (ICD). The ECD and TMD have been studied in great detail and their 3-D structures have been determined. The rec… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
