Etude statistique des corrélations entre les critères spirographiques et les pressions partielles d’oxygène et d’anhydride carbonique dans le sang artériel

Abstract: Spirometric data, resting Pao2 and Paco2 have been statistically evaluated in 152 patients with chronic obstructive bronchitis. Spirographic studies show a restrictive and obstrucdata tive syndrome, associated with hypoxaemia and hypercapnia. Partial correlations show that PaO2 is positively correlated with age and negatively with VC (predicted percentage) and with FEV1 (predicted percentage); Paco2 is only correlated with FEV1 (predicted percen… Show more

“…It is thus of importance, for both theo retical and practical purposes, to understand the relationships between PaC02 on the one hand, and arterial oxygen tension (Pa02) and ventilatory function on the other. Such data were reported by several studies, but either the number of patients was small [1,12,16,17] or, when larger groups were studied, patients with specific lung diseases [15] or with bronchial asthma [8] were in cluded; the groups were also inhomoge neous with respect to sex, clinical status and severity of airway obstruction. We thus de cided to assess the relationships mentioned above in a group of male patients with chronic nonspecific lung disease with severe airway obstruction, at distance from cardio respiratory decompensation, looking for possible differences between those with chronic bronchitis and those with emphyse ma.…”

“…Une étude statistique antérieure [1] a montré qu'un groupe de 152 malades, at teints d'affections chroniques bronchopul monaires, est défini sur le plan physiopa thologique par un trouble spirographique obstructif et restrictif, associé à une hypo xémie hypercapnique.…”
