Etoposide (E) + epirebicin (E) + cisplatin (P) combination chemotherapy (EEP) In advanced gastric cancer: Negative impact on clinical outcome

Abstract: One hundred nineteen patients with advanced gastric cancer were included in a study comparing EEP vs. FEM chemotherapy. The response rate was higher (30%) in patients on EEP than in those treated with FEM (p = 0.05). Severe leukopenia, anemia, alopecia and infection were significantly more frequent on EEP. In addition, because of its intrinsic toxicity, EEP chemotherapy has a negative impact on the performance status of patients treated with this regimen, more than half of whom presented at least one episode o… Show more

“…In 98 fully evaluable patients, the overall response to FEM was 13% and 30% to EEP (P = 0.05). The latter nevertheless was significantly more toxic, resulting in three treatment-related deaths and the survival in the EEP arm was significantly inferior to that in the FEM arm (4.2 versus 7.9 months) [65] in spite of the higher overall response rate.…”

“…At our hospital, intra-arterial chemotherapy (AI) has been used for liver metastasis of cancer. The etoposide + epirubicin + CDDP therapy (EEP) used in one-shot AI was reported to be a highly responsive treatment for gastric cancer, but there were many adverse events, and it did not become established as a systemic chemotherapy (15). We have been using EEP with oneshot AI because of its high response rate and low number of adverse events.…”
