Etiology and genetic evolution of canine coronavirus circulating in five provinces of China, during 2018–2019

Abstract: A B S T R A C TAs the outbreaks of COVID-19 in worldwide, coronavirus has once again caught the attention of people. Canine coronavirus is widespread among dog population, and sometimes causes even fatal cases. Here, to characterize the prevalence and evolution of current circulating canine coronavirus (CCoV) strains in China, we collected 213 fecal samples from diarrheic pet dogs between 2018 and 2019. Of the 213 samples, we found 51 (23.94%) were positive for CCoV. Co-infection with canine parvovirus (CPV), … Show more

“…Also, several other factors indicate that SARS-CoV-2 virus that spread in Europe and USA vs Bangladesh may be different in some features, which need to be clarified in future. 17 19 Also, the age and other general profiles of the patients may have influenced the outcome. Data supporting this concept is on rise as several thousand COVID-19 patients have died in Europe and USA, the fatality is still low in Asian and African countries.…”

“…The principal confirmed transmission routes of the latter viruses are animal-to-person and person-to-person which can occur through droplets formed by a cough or sneeze as well as close contact with spatters of infected persons. However, the fecal-oral route of transmission was observed in other members of this family such as canine coronavirus ( He et al, 2020 ), equine coronavirus ( Nemoto, Schofield, & Cullinane, 2019 ), and feline coronavirus (C. Li et al, 2019 ). Although the COVID-19 is generally known by respiratory symptoms, many studies have shown that some patients, contracting this infection with gastrointestinal symptoms, have viral particles in their feces ( Hindson, 2020 ).…”
