“…The coping style of optimists, i.e., their unique method orientation to managing stressful problems and stress-induced emotions, would help them achieve a sense of well-being ( Nes and Segerstrom, 2006 ), which explains the ability of optimists to adapt to stressful or negative events. Previous research has shown that grit is enhanced through the positive psychological factor of optimism ( Tenney et al, 2015 ), and the impact of negative emotions on stress is moderated ( Rahman et al, 2022 ). Therefore, nursing managers and educators need to adopt effective interventions to foster optimistic psychological traits in nurses and nursing students to alleviate burnout and workplace stress among nurses.…”

This is understandable given that Latinx college students may face more discrimination because the majority of the U.S. higher educational institutions, regardless of their ethnic composition, are founded on Eurocentric cultural assumptions (Cano, Schwartz, et al, 2021; Castillo et al, 2004, 2006; Rahman et al, 2022). The resultant cultural incongruity in the academic environment may lead to the development of depressive symptoms among this population, which may explain this finding.…”

“…Still, there are many other possible sources of influence for smoking outcome expectancies. Future research could explore other social determinants of health (e.g., racial discrimination; Rahman et al, 2022) and coping behaviors (e.g., religious coping; McIntosh et al, 2021) that have been identified as important factors in previous work on behavioral health problems among Latinx persons. Fourth, the present study utilized a unidimensional measure of anxiety sensitivity (SSASI) in which optimal cutoff scores for elevated anxiety sensitivity are not established.…”
