The dream of making conscious humanoid robots is one that has long tantalized humanity, yet today it seems closer than ever before. Assuming that science can make it happen, the question becomes: should we make it happen? Is it morally permissible to create synthetic beings with consciousness? While a consequentialist approach may seem logical, attempting to assess the potential positive and negative consequences of such a revolutionary technology is highly speculative and raises more questions than it answers. Accordingly, some turn to ancient and not-so-ancient stories of “automata” for direction. Of the many automata conjured throughout history, if not in matter then in mind, the Golem stands out as one of the most persistent paradigms employed to discuss technology in general and technologically engendered life forms in particular. In this essay, I introduce a novel reading of the Golem paradigm to argue not from consequentialism, but from a deep-seated two-thousand-year-old tradition, the ethical implications of which are wholly deontological.

Preamble"I believe in horses" -the German Kaiser, Wilhelm II, said in 1905 -"Automobiles are a passing phenomenon". 1 The kaiser has passed, and cars and automation have entered our daily lives. The ability to grasp the importance of changes, of technological evolution, is fundamental to predict the future and adapt.In his book published in 2017, Lawrence Freedman, a world-renowned military thinker, has explored the issue of imagining future war, including cyberattack, and how the boundaries between peace and war, between the military, the civilian and the criminal are becoming increasingly blurred. He concludes that questions about the future of war are a regular feature of political debate, strategic analysis, and popular fiction.Iconic films such as Star Wars (1977) and Starship Troopers (1997) picture conflicts fought in outer space. Tron (1982) and War Games (1983) conceive a scenario with artificial intelligence and self-learning machines. Fail-Safe (1964) tells about a computer error that causes a U.S. nuclear attack on Moscow during the Cold War, and poses the question of the final decisor to the use of lethal force.

This study aims to analyze the future and sustainability of character education in the era of artificial intelligence. This issue is very important because several research findings show that artificial intelligence-based technology threatens the process of internalizing academic ethical values in education. If this problem is not overcome, it is feared that the implementation of character education will be marginalized by the use of artificial intelligence technology. This research is a philosophical research model on actual problems using a qualitative approach. Data collection techniques use document studies, while the methodical elements used in data analysis are description, analysis, synthesis, hermenutics, language analytics, and heuristics. This research found that the development of artificial intelligence technology in education is an unavoidable phenomenon. The world of education as one of the strategic vehicles for improving the quality of human self, has a double duty. First, education must continue to maintain and preserve academic ethical values amid the development of artificial intelligence technology. Second, education at the same time must also be able to eliminate anxiety, fear, or phobia of the use of artificial intelligence. Based on these findings, this study emphasizes the importance of developing character education and artificial intelligence education in a harmonious and balanced manner in order to maintain the future sustainability of character education in the era of artificial intelligence.Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis masa depan dan keberlanjutan pendidikan karakter di era kecerdasan buatan. Isu ini sangat penting karena beberapa temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa teknologi berbasis kecerdasan buatan mengancam proses internalisasi nilai-nilai etika akademik dalam pendidikan. Jika masalah ini tidak diatasi, dikhawatirkan implementasi pendidikan karakter akan terpinggirkan oleh penggunaan teknologi kecerdasan buatan. Penelitian ini merupakan model penelitian filosofis tentang permasalahan aktual dengan menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif. Objek material dalam penelitian ini adalah penggunaan artificial intelligence dalam pendidikan; sedangkan objek formal yang digunakan adalah filsafat teknologi. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan studi dokumen, sedangkan elemen metodis yang digunakan dalam analisis data adalah deskripsi, analisis, sintesis, hermenutika, analisis bahasa, dan heuristika. Penelitian ini menemukan bahwa perkembangan teknologi kecerdasan buatan dalam pendidikan merupakan fenomena yang tidak dapat dihindari. Dunia pendidikan sebagai salah satu wahana strategis untuk meningkatkan kualitas diri manusia, memiliki tugas ganda. Pertama, pendidikan harus terus menjaga dan melestarikan nilai-nilai etika akademik di tengah perkembangan teknologi kecerdasan buatan. Kedua, pendidikan sekaligus juga harus mampu menghilangkan kecemasan, ketakutan, atau fobia terhadap penggunaan kecerdasan buatan. Berdasarkan temuan tersebut, penelitian ini menekankan pentingnya pengembangan pendidikan karakter dan pendidikan kecerdasan buatan secara harmonis dan seimbang guna menjaga keberlangsungan pendidikan karakter di masa depan di era kecerdasan buatan.
