Abstract:The oxidation of hydrocarbons by hexavalent chromium compounds (chromyl chloride, i.e., chromatic acid chloride) to form a mixture of alcohol, carbonyl compounds (aldehyde or ketones), chloro‐ketones, or aldehydes and the starting material is generally known as the Étard reaction.
