“…The present study confirms the existence of an endemic area for CD in the municipality of Quixeré, Ceará. This fact is known from the time the first studies were performed by Alencar in 1963, showing an estimated seroprevalence of 22.5% 9 . We showed that the seroprevalence rate of CD in Quixeré was 3.7% higher than that reported in other studies performed in the state of Ceará (3.1% 10 , 1.2% 11 , and 1.2% 12 ) and lower than that reported in a study 11 .…”

“…The Jaguaribe Valley is a region in Ceará that has always aroused interest among researchers as to the epidemiological importance of CD. The pioneering studies were performed by ALENCAR 2 and demonstrated high rates of human infection and capture of triatomines in this region. More recent studies have focused on the detection of seroprevalence in municipalities of the Lower Juaguaribe Microregion such as Limoeiro do Norte 18 , Jaguaruana 6 and Russas 13 .…”

“…As well as Phyllostomus discolor, the species Phyllostomus hastatus, Lophostoma brasiliense, and Lasiurus blossevillii occur both in the states of Ceará and Paraíba (Alencar et al 1976, Mares et al 1981, Fabián 2008, Feijó & Langguth 2011) and therefore, Rio Grande do Norte is part of their expected distributions. Promops nasutus, however, was recorded only in four localities in the northeastern region of Brazil: at its type locality in Rio São Francisco (Spix 1823, Thomas 1915, Lamarão (Goodwin & Greenhall 1962), and Rio Preto (Gregorin & Chiquito 2010) in the state of Bahia, and at a not informed site in the south of the state of Piauí (Tavares et al 2008).…”
