Estudo do comportamento mecânico da liga Ti-6Al-4V submetida ao processo de união por solda TIG.

Abstract

Among the different bonding processes of materials for titanium alloys, we can highlight the Tungsten Inert Gas (TIG) weld, due the atmosphere protection done during the process, because this alloy is highly reactive to oxygen and nitrogen. The present work sought to evaluate the mechanical characteristics on sheets of grade 5 titanium, from Ti-6Al-4V alloy welded by TIG, performed under variations in the influence of current and shielding gas compared to data in the literature. The samples were manufacturing by waterjet cutting system to the tensile test, bend test, hardness test and microstructure, inside and outside of heat affected zone (HAZ). Protection devices were manufactured for the root of the welded joint (Backup Shield), the face of the welded joint (Trailing Shiel), the torch nozzle diameter was increased to ensure the protection of the weld pool and a Tartilope V2 (controlled release system) was used to ensure repeatability and stability in the process. The titanium alloy chosen at this work is widely used in the aerospace, biomedical and automotive industries, represents 45% of titanium consumption and is characterized by high mechanical strength, low density and excellent corrosion resistance.
