Introduction:Orotracheal intubation is one of the main life-saving procedures, which is an advanced life support care. In cases of a difficult airway, fiberoptic bronchoscopes are used to facilitate care. Objective: To compare the effectiveness of the procedure with the technique of assisted intubation with a low-cost video equipment compared to the conventional technique under direct vision. Methods: This is a prospective, comparative and quantitative study. Twenty-eight undergraduate medical students with previous theoretical and practical content on the subject were selected. A mini-course and a practical demonstration were presented, leveling the knowledge of the participants. Then, they were divided into two groups. The control group, which performed the procedure using the conventional technique, and the experimental group, which performed the technique with lowcost equipment. They were evaluated through total intubation time; number of attempts to success; number of hits and misses, and the satisfaction of the participants. Results: The intubation time to perform the procedure (p=0.082), as well as the number of attempts (p=0.631) and errors (p=0.773) showed no statistically significant differences between the two scenarios. However, in the evaluation of participants' satisfaction, when asked about better visualization of the oral cavity, the experimental group showed greater satisfaction (p= 0.003). Conclusion: From this, a statistically significant difference was identified regarding the satisfaction of the experimental group, mainly in relation to better visualization of the oral cavity.

Objective:To compare glottis exposure of the same patients with potentially difficult tracheal intubation (PDTI) subjected to Airtraq laryngoscopy and Macintosh laryngoscopy under consciousness and topical anesthesia.Methods:A total of 147 PDTI patients with American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) I-III were subjected to Airtraq and Macintosh laryngoscopy performed by experienced anesthesiologists under consciousness and topical anesthesia.Results:All patients were successfully intubated. Among them, three patients were intubated with fiberoptic bronchoscopy, 13 with Macintosh laryngoscopy and 131 with Airtraq laryngoscopy. Of the patients with Cormack and Lehance (C&L) Grade-I glottic view, 88 were subjected to Airtraq laryngoscopy and five to Macintosh laryngoscopy; Of the patients with C&L Grade-II glottic view, 56 were subjected to Airtraq laryngoscopy and 21 to Macintosh bronchoscopy; Of the patients with C&L Grade-III glottic view, three were subjected to Airtraq laryngoscopy and 112 to Macintosh bronchoscopy; Of the patients with C&L Grade-IV glottic view, none was subjected to Airtraq laryngoscopy and 9 to Macintosh laryngoscopy.Conclusions:Airtraq laryngoscopy could significantly improve the glottis exposure and reduce the difficulty of intubation for patients with potentially tracheal intubation compared to the traditional Macintosh laryngoscopy.

A pandemia causada pelo novo Coronavírus, afetou a vida e alterou o cotidiano de praticamente todos os países, bem como sua população, e devido à alta taxa de transmissão, compreende-se que os profissionais da saúde, fazem parte do grupo de risco e são os mais vulneráveis devido à exposição diária a pacientes infectados. A COVID-19 foi a principal causa das hospitalizações e as intervenções nas vias aéreas dos pacientes são necessárias para a intubação e extubação orotraqueal dos pacientes. Durante a abordagem inicial deste procedimento as vias aéreas dos pacientes podem gerar gotículas de líquidos resultantes da fala ou tosse, em forma de aerossóis, os quais aumentam o risco de transmissão da COVID-19. Este artigo teve por objetivo relatar o processo desenvolvimento de uma caixa Intubação e Extubação com abordagem do Design Centrado no Usuário. A pesquisa tem natureza aplicada, com abordagem qualitativa, objetivo exploratório e explicativo, e foi dividida em duas fases: Suporte teórico (1) e Desenvolvimento do Produto (2). Foi desenvolvida uma caixa de intubação e extubação, com suportes tecnológicos para levantamento criação, simulação e materialização, utilizando-se dos princípios do Design Centrado no Humano e da Ergonomia, com ênfase nos profissionais da saúde no contexto hospitalar. O produto se mostrou viável, pois proporcionou a postura corporal adequada dos profissionais da saúde e paciente, atendeu aos critérios e requisitos projetuais, e possibilitou um procedimento mais seguro.
