Objective: The aim is to determine the relationship between academic procrastination, depressive symptoms and suicidal ideation in students of the Faculty of Health Sciences. Method: It was a non-experimental and cross-sectional study of correlational scope. The non-probabilistic convenience sample, made up of 578 participants between 16 and 30 years old (69% female), completed the Academic Procrastination Scale, the Positive and Negative Suicidal Ideation Inventory (PANSI) and the Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II). Frequencies and percentages were estimated at a descriptive level, the partial correlation coefficient and multiple linear regression were utilized to examine the associations between academic procrastination and suicidal ideation. Results: Subjects with a higher score of academic procrastination and BDI-II reported higher scores for suicidal ideation than those with a lower score (P < 0.01). A positive significant relationship was found between total academic procrastination and its subscales and suicidal ideation (P < 0.01). This correlation remained significant after controlling for depression (P < 0.05). Moreover, multiple linear regression revealed that academic procrastination, its subscales and depressive symptoms could explain about 20% of the total suicidal ideation in university students (R2 = 0.198). Conclusion: Increased levels of academic procrastination increase suicidal ideation in college students during the pandemic. These results suggest the need to create interventions for the prevention of this problem in the fields of educational and public health.

La Curiosidad Epistémica (CE) es el deseo que motiva a las personas a adquirir nuevo conocimiento. La escala de CE de Litman fue desarrollada para operacionalizar este constructo, y aunque su estructura latente ha sido validada en varios estudios, estos se han realizado en su mayoría en Alemania, EE. UU y los Países Bajos, que son sociedades educadas, industrializadas, ricas y democráticas. Por consiguiente, el presente estudio evaluó las propiedades psicométricas de la escala de CE, en una muestra de adultos del noroeste de México (N = 334) con edades de 18 a 50 años. Al igual que en investigaciones previas, se compararon dos modelos: unidimensional y bidimensional, mediante análisis factoriales confirmatorios.Adicionalmente, se incluyeron los residuales correlacionados significativos, como parte de ambos modelos, y se examinó si el instrumento tiene invarianza de medición. Los resultados muestran que el modelo bifactorial presentó el mejor ajuste.La consistencia interna fue aceptable, y se comprobó que la escala posee invarianza configural, métrica, escalar y estricta.Usos potenciales de este constructo emergente incluyen su estudio como un factor motivacional relevante, en el nivel deinvolucramiento y las estrategias de formación de los estudiantes, así como su papel mediador en varios tipos de ansiedaden el aprendizaje

Depression can negatively affect academic performance, concentration, and motivation, which can lead to a higher dropout rate. In this study, a strategy was designed to reduce the risk factors for depression in first and second-semester nursing students at the Regional University "UNIANDES." The objective was to observe how depression affects these students between May and August 2023. A mixed methodology was used, combining qualitative and quantitative analysis. The Beck Depression Inventory (BDI-II) was applied to 52 students to measure the severity of depressive symptoms. The results showed that 63 % of the students had normal results, while 15 % had a slight disturbance of mood, 14 % had intermittent depression, 6 % had moderate depression, and 2 % had severe depression. The prevention strategy included early and regular assessment, education and awareness programs, accessibility to psychological support services, strengthening social support networks, academic interventions, promoting healthy habits, and continuous monitoring. Implementing the designed strategy not only helps reduce the prevalence of depression but also fosters a healthier and more productive educational environment, essential for the proper academic and professional development of future nurses.
