In this study, 24 organochlorine pesticide residues in 109 different honey samples collected from stores and open markets in Konya, Turkey were analyzed by gas chromatography-electron capture detection. Aldrin, cis-chlordane, trans-chlordane, oxy-chlordane, 2,4(')-DDE, and 4,4(')-DDE were found in all honey samples. The mean value was 0.0540 microg g(-1) for oxy-chlordane. In the 55 samples of 109, levels of organochlorine pesticide residues of oxy-chlordane were determined as higher than those of Turkish Alimentarius Codex maximum residual limits (MRLs). Other organochlorine pesticide residues also exceeded MRLs except for cis-heptachlor epoxide and alpha-hexachlorocyclohexane. Since all of the honey samples are found contaminated and most of these samples exceeded MRLs, a control of organochlorine pesticide residues in honey is necessary for consumer health.

Urbanisation significantly impacts on water environments with increased runoff and the degradation of water quality. The management of quantity impacts are straight forward, but quality impacts are far more complex. Current approaches to safeguard water quality are largely ineffective and guided by entrenched misconceptions with a primary focus on 'end-of-pipe' solutions. The outcomes of a research study presented in the paper, which investigated relationships between water quality and six different land uses offer practical guidance in the planning of future urban developments. In terms of safeguarding water quality, high density residential development which results in a relatively smaller footprint would be the preferred option. The research study outcomes bring into question a number of fundamental concepts and misconceptions routinely accepted in stormwater quality management. The research findings confirmed the need to move beyond customary structural measures and identified the key role that urban planning can play in safeguarding urban water environments.Keywords: multivariate analysis, stormwater quality management, urban water quality, water quality impacts 3

Cluster analysis (CA), discriminant analysis (DA) and principal component analysis (PCA) were comprehensively coupled to explore and identify the spatial and temporal variation and potential pollution sources in coastal water quality along Macau peninsula. The results show that the 12 months could be grouped into two periods, June-September and the remaining months, and the entire area divided into two clusters, one located at the western sides, and the other on the southeast and southern sides of the Macau peninsula. Through backward stepwise DA, pH, Cl -, TSS, Color and TP, Chloride, Color, NH 4 ? , DO, COD were discriminant variables of spatial and temporal variation, with 84.82 and 76.54% correct assignments, respectively. Fecal pollution, organic pollution and soil weathering are among the major sources for coastal water quality deterioration along Macau peninsula. This study illustrates that application of multivariate statistical techniques was beneficial to gain knowledge for further optimizing the monitoring network and controlling coastal water quality along Macau peninsula.
