The present study examines the structure of negative affect regulation strategies by confirmatory factor analysis. A total of 264 students (n = 187 women, 65 men) (M = 24 years; SD = 9.32) took part in this study. Results show a good fit indices for a three facets model: (1) modification of situation (problem-directed action, seeking emotional and instrumental social support, psychological abandonment and social isolation); (2) attentional deployment and cognitive change (distraction, acceptance, gratitude, rumination, reappraisal, spirituality, and social comparison); and (3) response modification (suppression, active and passive physiological, humor and warmth, venting, confrontation, and regulated emotional expression). The scale validity is confirmed through correlations between the expanded of Mood Affect Regulation Scale dimensions including dimensions of dispositional reappraisal and suppression, and hedonic and psychological well-being. Participants report an adaptive profile with high psychological well-being, even if they report low positive affect, suggesting a greater relevance of eudaimonic than hedonic well-being for affect regulation.

Background: It has been proposed that the risk of death by suicide is higher in patients with diabetes than in the general population. Therefore, it is necessary to investigate the risk factors of suicidal behavior in patients with type 2 diabetes. The aim of the present study was to analyze the prevalence of suicide attempt and determine the risk factors of suicide attempt, in patients with type 2 diabetes in a Mexican population. Methods: Clinic characteristics, anthropometric measurements, biochemical levels, depression, and suicidal behavior were evaluated in 185 Mexican patients with type 2 diabetes. A multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed to find predictive factors of suicide attempt. Results: 11.4% of patients reported previous suicide attempts n = 21). Younger patients (OR: 3.63, 95% CI: 1.29–10.19), having depression (OR: 3.33, 95% CI: 1.13–9.76) and normal BMI (OR: 3.14, 95% CI: 1.11–8.83), were predictive factors of suicide attempt. No other variables in the study showed statistical significance. Conclusions: Our results showed a high prevalence of suicidal behavior in patients with type 2 diabetes. We found that younger age, depression and normal BMI could be risk factors of suicide attempt in these patients. Therefore, psychiatric interventions to prevent depression and suicidal behavior in this population are necessary. New studies using larger samples are necessary to replicate and confirm these results.

Introducción: la estadía en la unidad de cuidados intensivos genera cambios en la dinámica familiar causados por las alteraciones en las actividades diarias que obligan a utilizar estrategias que los mitiguen. Objetivo: describir las estrategias de afrontamiento de los familiares de pacientes críticos. Materiales y métodos: revisión integradora de literatura en las bases de datos PUBMED, LILACS, EPISTEMONIKOS, CUIDEN, SCIELO, CINAHL y CLINICALKEY, obteniendo 13 artículos: 7 estudios cuantitativos observacionales, 4 cualitativos fenomenológicos y 2 revisiones sistemáticas. Resultados: se determinó que las estrategias más utilizadas por los familiares de pacientes críticos son respuesta emocional, apoyo social, valores y creencias y crisis familiar. La más recurrente en los estudios revisados es la respuesta emocional debido a la implicación afectiva que tiene en los familiares la hospitalización de su ser querido. Conclusión: la respuesta emocional usada por los familiares como estrategia evidencia la necesidad de que las enfermeras garanticen espacios de acercamiento y expresión de sentimientos. Los servicios de salud deben priorizar el trato humanizado y una comunicación acorde con las necesidades de los familiares.
