Estradiol In Vivo Induces Changes in Cardiomyocytes Size in Obese Rats

Abstract: We studied the in vivo effects of estradiol on size and biochemical parameters of cardiomyocytes in pathophysiological conditions such as obesity and insulin resistance. Male Wistar rats were normally fed (controls, n = 7) or fed with high-fat diet (obese, n = 14). Half of the obese rats (obese + estradiol, n = 7) were treated with a single dose of estradiol (40 μg/kg, intraperitoneally) and 24 hours after treatment all the rats were killed. Estradiol in vivo in obese rats resulted in a significant increase in… Show more

“…E 2 has a direct effect on the heart by influencing lipid metabolism and insulin sensitivity (Koricanac et al 2012). Furthermore, in the same rat model as used in this study we have previously reported that in vivo the administration of E 2 as a bolus injection reduced cardiac hypertrophy, decrease serum total cholesterol and high sensitivity C-reactive protein, and realigning of insulin signalling cascade (Obradovic et al 2015a, Obradovic et al 2015b). …”

“…We have previously shown that the plasma (Obradovic et al 2015a) and liver lysate FFA concentrations (Stanimirovic et al 2016) are significantly higher in HF fed IR male rats compared with controls, and that in vivo E 2 treatment has no effect on HF fed male rats plasma M A N U S C R I P T…”
