The magnitude of export of nutrients with forest harvest depends on the adopted waste management and, above all, on the distribution of biomass and nutrients in the trees, which is conditioned by the genetic potential and the species composition of forest stand. The objective of this study was to quantify the biomass and nutrients of the trees and evaluate the effect of the management of harvest residues on the removal of nutrients from pure and mixed plantations of Pinus sp.. The study areas are located in the Southwest region of Bahia State, Brazil. Twenty trees per species were selected and felled under both planting conditions. The biomass quantification was performed by the destructive method. Samples of the tree components were analyzed for N, P, K, Ca and Mg contents. The total biomass was 75 Mg ha-1 for pure planting, and 81 Mg ha-1 for mixed planting, with wood and bark as the most representative compartments. Removal of the wood with bark led to too much nutrient removal, reaching a further 50% of the total contained in the biomass. Mixed planting has been shown more prone to export P, K and Mg. For both plantations, 64% of the N, P, K, Ca and Mg are in other components of the aerial part of the tree, and not in the wood. The elements that represent the highest risk for maintaining productivity are Ca and Mg.

RESUMOA silvicultura de Acacia mearnsii é uma importante atividade econômica no Rio Grande do Sul e a colheita da biomassa deve visar sempre a sustentabilidade nutricional do sítio. O objetivo deste trabalho é caracterizar o estoque de nutrientes contido na biomassa e a exportação em função de diferentes intensidades de colheita de uma plantação de Acacia mearnsii, na região central do Rio Grande do Sul, Brasil. Nove árvores foram fracionadas em folhas, galhos, casca da madeira e madeira do tronco, de onde foram determinados os pesos secos e teores de nutrientes. A produção total de biomassa é de 174,67 Mg ha -1 , onde 72,8% corresponde à madeira do tronco e 12,5% à casca da madeira. Houve maior acúmulo dos nutrientes N, K, Ca e Fe e, o sistema de colheita onde há retirada da casca da madeira e madeira do tronco, preconizado na acacicultura, remove mais de 50% das quantidades de nutrientes acumuladas na biomassa, o que torna indispensável a manutenção dos resíduos (folhas e galhos) sobre o solo.PALAVRAS-CHAVE: Acácia-negra, Nutrição florestal, Manejo de resíduos. ABSTRACTAcacia mearnsii silviculture is an important economic activity in Rio Grande do Sul state and biomass harvesting should always aim at the nutritional sustainability of the site. The objective of this work is to characterize the nutrient stock contained in the biomass and the export in function of different harvest intensities of a Acacia mearnsii plantation, in the central region of Rio Grande do Sul state, Brazil. Nine trees were fractionated in leaves, branches, stembark and stemwood, from where were determined the dry weights and contents of nutrients. The total biomass production was 174.67 Mg ha -1 , where 72.8% corresponds to the stemwood and 12.5% to the stembark. There was a greater accumulation of N, K, Ca and Fe nutrients, and the harvesting system where there is a removal of the stembark and stemwood, recommended in acaciculture, removes more than 50% of the nutrient amounts accumulated in the biomass, which maintenance of the waste (leaves and branches) on the soil.

Intensive management of forest stands can increase biomass production, as well as increase the removal of nutrients from the site. This study therefore sought to simulate different harvest intensities and to calculate the nutrient-use efficiency of Eucalyptus urograndis in different types of soil. The study was carried out in a plantation of seven-year-old hybrid E. urograndis in the city of Telêmaco Borba, Paraná, Brazil. The study site included two sub areas with sandy soil and clayey soil (Cambisols Inceptisol and Ferralsols Oxisols, respectively). Using biomass and nutrients stock data, nutrient removal was simulated under five different harvest scenarios. Nutrient-use efficiency was obtained from the relation between the amount of biomass and nutrients of each tree component. Harvesting the whole tree resulted in the removal of approximately 61% of the nutrients from the site in sandy soil, while in clayey soil 57% of the nutrients were removed. With harvesting of only the commercial stemwood, only 22% of the nutrients were removed from the sandy soil, and 21% from the clayey soil. Stemwood was the component that had the highest nutrient-use efficiency values for all the analyzed nutrients. In conclusion, to achieve nutritional sustainability of E. urograndis stands, the best harvesting system involves the removal of only commercial stemwood. For the production of stemwood, sandy soils have a greater biological efficiency of calcium and magnesium when compared to clayey soil.
