Post-harvest, wood volume can be calculated with a stacking factor which can be influenced by diameter classes involved. Consequently, the following question arises: there is a difference between the volume conversion factor for stacked to geometric volume between piles of clonal plantation logs of different diameters classes? The hypothesis is: if smaller logs have a higher stacked to geometric volume conversion factor, between-log voids will be smaller and the overall stacks will therefore have lower volumes. Therefore, the objective of this study was to compare stacking and cubing factors in stacks of logs with different diameters for two Eucalyptus sp. clones. The study was conducted in Barra do Corda municipality, Maranhão State, Brazil. Timber was laid in piles of logs by diameter class, composed of logs of smaller (9-10.99 cm) and larger (11-13 cm) diameters. Stacking factor means for clone 1 were 1.88 for the larger diameter and 2.00 for the smaller diameter class, while for clone 2 mean values were 1.62 and 1.65, for stacks with larger and smaller diameter classes, respectively. For logs from the same clone there was no significant difference for the conversion factors between the stacks with the largest and smallest diameter. However, there was a significant difference in the conversion factors between the two clones, proving the hypothesis tested. Thus, for each genetic lineage, a proper stacking factor must be established so that the estimated volume comes close to the real value.

Fueron medidos, apeados y troceados 1545 árboles de Eucalyptus urophylla S.T. Bla con la finalidad de seleccionar ecuaciones volumétricas con una y dos variables independientes. La muestra de la validación cruzada fue en 310 árboles. Fueron empleadas las variables dendrométricas diámetro normal y altura total del árbol para ajustar ecuaciones volumétricas en una plantación de E. urophylla destinada a la producción de leña y en edad de cosecha. Los criterios de selección fueron los estadísticos: coeficiente de determinación ajustado, error padrón de la estimación, distribución gráfica de residuos e índice de Furnival. De siete ecuaciones ensayadas con una variable dendrométrica, la seleccionada fue la ecuación de Hohenadl-Krenn (v=ß0+ß1d+ß2d2), que obtuvo la mayor fiabilidad estadística, presentando el mejor ajuste (R2aj = 0,98, Sx = 0,06 e IF = 0,01). Su expresión matemática fue: v= 21,5461 + 4,4448∙d + 0,2247∙d2. De los nueve modelos ensayados que consideraron dos variables dendrométricas la ecuación de Meyer log v=ß0+ß1d+ß2d2+ß3dh+ß4d2h+ß5h presentó el mejor ajuste. Sin embargo, en eficiencia fue inferior al compararla con la ecuación de Hohenadl-Krenn.

Brazil is a major producer in the timber sector, mainly with the use of wood from species of the genus Eucalyptus, with 26.1% of planted forests located in Minas Gerais. Researchers and manufacturers have been searching for techniques with the objective of making full use of these forests, with a primary focus on greater growth. A modeling of growth curves is an alternative for the estimation of oral production andan important aid tool for the researcher's decision making. Growth curves are commonly studied by nonlinear regression models, which have important assumptions that if not met should be added to the model. The present work aims to select among nonlinear Logistic, Gompertz and von Bertalany regression models the most suitable to describe the growth in wood volume of Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus grandis hybrids in three Forest Site categories, including whether assumption deviations are required. Methods were executed by the Gauss-Newton iterative method implemented in nls() and it gnls() functions of the R software. Determination coecient, Akaike information criterion (AICc) and Residual Standard Deviation (RSD) were used as selection evaluators of the best model. The results demonstrate that for all site categories, the Gompertz model with addition of autoregressive parameters AR (1) is the most appropriate to describe the growth in wood volume of Eucalyptus urophylla x Eucalyptus grandis hybrids. The addition of the rst-order autoregressive parameter does not aect the quality of t, but it is the correct procedure. Site I, which presents the largest trees according to pre-dened variations, recorded 308 m3/ha of wood volume, followed by 286 m3/ha and 263 m3/ha for Sites II and III, respectively. The time for Site III to reach the maximum point of volume growth is between the fourth and sixth year, while the other sites are more precocious, reaching this point between the second and third year.
