Show more

“…In 2020, HLB was first reported in the state of Bahia [10], the fourth largest citrus producing region of Brazil. Prior economic modelling estimated this incursion could cause US$ 700 million in direct losses over a 20-year period [11]. The area of citrus grown in Indonesia has ranged from 20,000 ha in 1961 to over 13,000 ha in 1996 and 1967 (FAO Statistical Databases for Agriculture: http://www.fao.org/faostat) but has since declined.…”

“…The ‘citrus greening disease’ or Huanglongbing (HLB) is currently the most devastating citrus disease worldwide (Gottwald, 2010). HLB has so far caused significant losses or threatened the production in the USA (Hodges & Spreen, 2012), Brazil (da Costa et al, 2021; Oliveira et al, 2013), China (Gottwald, 2007), Indonesia (Bové, 2006), India (da Graça, 1991) and east Africa (Djeddour et al, 2021).…”

“…In the state of Florida, in the USA, these losses were estimated at approximately US$1 billion per year (LI et al, 2020). In the state of Bahia, the incidence of HLB would generate losses greater than R$1.8 billion (OLIVEIRA et al, 2013).…”

“…There is a substantial amount of agronomic, phyto-pathological, and geographical information on HLB (BLAUSTEIN et al, 2018;GASPAROTO et al, 2018;MUNIR et al, 2018), evidencing its damage potential. However, there have been few studies on the economic impact generated by the losses resulting from HLB (OLIVEIRA et al, 2013;SPREEN et al, 2014;ALVAREZ et al, 2016;LI et al, 2020), and no such studies have been conducted for the state of Paraná.…”
