“…Sharma et al (2000) found that PGRs, when applied with fungicide, increased digestibility though the independent effects of the PGR and fungicides were not determined. Savoie et al (1994) did not find a consistent PGR effect on digestibility, but PGRs were only applied 62 days before harvest, so it is unlikely that they had a large influence on plant form.…”

“…During comparative trials carried out in France, fungicide application to winter wheat cultivars did not significantly affect fibre components, but stimulated polyphenol and carbohydrate content of the treated samples (Savoie et al, 1992). In addition, composition of straw cell-wall fractions as a result of growth regulator treatment was also investigated and ash, nitrogen, lignin and cellulose fractions changed significantly, but no consistent effects on cultivars or straw composition was observed (Savoie et al, 1994). In contrast this study has shown consistent effects of fungicide and growth regulator treatment on most of the cultivars, as reduction in N and increase in ash content and digestibility of the treated straw samples.…”

“…The effects of cultural practices in various agro-climatic conditions on different wheat cultivars cannot be measured easily, as it is difficult to isolate the consequences of one practice and obtain useful information under all conditions. However, attempts to measure the effects of fungicide schedules on composition and degradability of wheat straw quality have been made by Savoie et al (1992) and Savoie, Minivelle & Chalaux (1994). Their results have shown that fungicide effects under the prevailing conditions in Auzeville, France were less significant than other cultural factors such as nitrogen nutrition and use of growth regulators.…”
