Most of the fishing currently practiced in Japan is done by small vessels with a small number of fishermen (one or two). One of the most common fishing methods is longline fishing. However, this method requires the vessel to operate at a constant low speed because the depth of the hook must be kept constant while adjusting the speed of the fishing boat to the tidal current. In addition, because the vessel must maneuver and fish at the same time, automation is desired. Thus, we propose a robotic system that can control the depth of the trap at a constant depth even when the speed of the vessel and the current change, and that can successfully fish without the need for skilled fishermen. Fishing can be conducted regardless of the speed of the vessel, whereas currently it is controlled by the speed of the vessel and the tidal current. Therefore, it may contribute to proposing new fishing methods as well as the existing ones. This can contribute to the shortage of successors to the fishing industry and to the revitalization of the fishing industry.

Storing carbon dioxide (CO 2 ) as a hydrate in stratigraphic sediments is considered one of the most effective methods for reducing CO 2 emissions and preventing global warming. However, the characteristics of CO 2 hydrate formation/dissociation in marine settings can significantly affect the storage process. This study investigates CO 2 hydrate formation/dissociation in silica sand porous media (particles of 400 μm) at reservoir conditions of 276.2 K and 3.3 MPa. For the first time, we conducted a comparative study to understand the efficacy of different hydrophobic amino acids for promoting CO 2 hydrate formation in sediments. We evaluated the potential of three amino acid additives, Lleucine, L-tryptophan, and L-methionine, for sequestering carbon dioxide by forming CO 2 hydrates in subsea deposits. Experiments were performed at two different concentrations of amino acids in both nonsaline and saline (3.5 wt % NaCl solution) conditions to mimic natural environments. Critical parameters such as gas consumption, uptake rate, and induction time were assessed to determine the effectiveness of these additives in promoting CO 2 hydrate formation. It was observed that 0.2 wt % L-tryptophan exhibited the highest CO 2 uptake, averaging 99.36 ± 2.93 mmol/mol H 2 O in nonsaline conditions. In contrast, 0.2 wt % L-methionine showed the least uptake in saline conditions, with an average of 22.41 ± 0.93 mmol/ mol H 2 O. Salinity had a dominant effect at 0.2 wt %, but increasing the concentration to 1.0 wt % bypassed the influence of NaCl, with L-leucine and L-tryptophan showing favorable gas uptakes of 81.57 ± 0.16 and 63.71 ± 3.75 mmol/mol H 2 O, respectively. For nonsaline conditions, L-tryptophan exhibited the highest effectiveness, followed by L-methionine and L-leucine. In saline environments, L-leucine and L-tryptophan significantly promoted CO 2 hydrate formation at 1.0 wt %, while L-methionine did not show any characteristic promotion effect. Salt presence significantly affects the hydrate dissociation, while amino acids have a more prominent impact on hydrate dissociation in the absence of salt.

This study attempts to examine the convergence development of the marine fishery (MF) and marine tourism (MT) industries of Japan through the theory of industrial relevance. First, the current MF and MT situation in Japan is introduced to analyze the mechanism of the integration of the two industries. Second, a Vector Autoregression Model (VAR) is built to examine the relationship between MF and MT. In addition, the shock potential contributions of the MF and MT industries are identified using impulse response and variance decomposition. Results show that the impact of MF on MT is more significant than that of MT on MF. However, the interaction between MF and MT tends to stabilize in the long run. Third, the industrial integration case of Japan’s Himakajima Island is selected to analyze the MF and MT integration mechanism. The integration of MF and MT can reduce transaction costs, make full use of labor, and promote the development of the local economy. Therefore, attention should be paid to the integration of the MF and MT industries, rather than partial implementation, to balance the development of the marine economy. Finally, relevant suggestions and measures are presented for marine industry transformation and upgrading, industrial integration, and green ecological development.
